In modern times, the Chinese patriarchal clan system and traditional ethic morality and the three cardinal guides and the five constant virtues were specified in the feudal despotic code. Yet Chen Sanli and his son, Chen Yinque, believed in their value. They thought that the Chinese patriarchal clan system and traditional ethic morality, rather than blocking the way to prosperity, should be taken as the symbol of Chinese culture and henceforth be conserved.
