摘要
由刘廷芳、杨荫浏担任主编的《圣歌与圣乐》是民国时期《真理与生命》中的音乐专栏,属讨论教会圣歌与音乐的刊物。共出刊14期的《圣歌与圣乐》包含了33篇文章,其中由杨荫浏独立及与他人合作撰写、翻译的共有16篇,这些文论主要围绕当时杨荫浏参与六公会联合编辑中国新教赞美诗集《普天颂赞》的编订工作而展开音乐文字方面的记述,涉及圣歌的创作年代与音调来源、诗歌的中文翻译以及圣乐在中国的处境化之思等多个方面。可以说,杨荫浏的这16篇文论不但为其后的《宋姜白石创作歌曲研究》《音乐对过去中国诗歌所起的决定作用》《语言音乐学初探》等论著奠定了坚实的音乐理论基石,更是于中国基督教音乐史中留下了弥足珍贵的文字印迹。
Hymns and Sacred Music edited by Timothy Tingfang Lew and Ernest Y. L. Yang is the music column of Truth and Life, a column on church music during the period of Republic of China. Hymns and Sacred Music consists in fourteen periodicals, including thirty-three articles. Among them, sixteen essays were written, co-written or translated by Ernest Y. L. Yang and others. These essays mainly focus on the record of Ernest Y. L. Yang's participation in compiling Hymns of Universal Praise by the Union Hymal Committee and touch upon many aspects of Christian music, such as the age of creation and the origin of tone in sacred music, the Chinese translation of hymns and the reflection of sacred music in China. So to speak, these literature theories not only lay the foundation of music theory in Ernest Y. L. Yang's later works such as the Study of Jiang Kui's songs in Song Dynasty, Effect of Music on the Development of Chinese Poetry and the Preliminary Research in Linguistic Musicology but also leave precious materials in the history of Chinese Christian music.
