The Complementarity of Confucianism and Taoism:on Feiming's Early Thought

废名以其佛缘禅趣知名于现代文坛。然而,深入考察他一生的生活和创作后不难发现,废名的思想其实有一个很明显的变化过程。废名早期的思想相对简单,受儒家和道家的影响较为明显,既积极投身社会、热心社会改革,也怀恋小国寡民中的古朴生活。他早期的思想中透露了后来思想转变的信息。

Feiming is known for Buddhistic taste in his literature in Chinese modern literature history. But after a profound study into his life and his creation, it is not difficult to find that his thought has an obvious change. Obviously influented by Confucianism and Taoism, Feiming＇s early thought is relatively simple. He was keen to reform the society and also cherish the old life style in a small country with a few people. His early thought has shown some evidence of change in his thought later in his life.
