Historical Development and Reform and Opening for 30 Years of Geological Education:Establishing a Lingnan Characteristic Department of Earth Sciences,Sun Yat-sen University

中山大学地球科学系是中国最早创办的地质学教学和研究机构之一。在80多年的地质学教育历程中,地质学的专业发展经历波折,但在风雨中仍然坚持下来。改革开放30年来,地处改革开放前缘的中山大学地球科学系,坚持解放思想,在开放、务实的岭南文化浸润下,紧跟科学前沿,面向行业和社会需求,推动地质学科不断向前发展,建立起了学士、硕士和博士的完整培养体系,形成了"厚基础、宽口径、多方向"的复合型、应用型和创新型人才的分流培养模式,已成为全国综合性大学地质学高等教育的重要组成部分。依托广东雄厚的经济实力和强劲的社会需求,未来中山大学地球科学系的发展具有更光辉的前景。

The Department of Earth Sciences was established at the Sun Yat-sen University in 1924 and is one of the earliest geological learning and research institute in China. During more than eighty years, the department is ideally situated for geological studies although she meets with some setbacks in the process of development of geology. After the reform and opening up of our country and driven by the rapid economic growth, opening and practical culture and developing opportunities in Guangdong province, the department persists in emancipating idea, following the scientific frontal, providing services for society and profession and promotes the geology. Up to now, in the department, integrated talent training system of Bachelor, Master and Doctor degree is established and compound talent training model of ＂strong basic skill, wide fit ability and various research fields＂ is formed, which is training many talents who are innovating. Looking forward, under the strong comprehensive economic strength and society demand in Guangdong province, the future of the department will be more splendid.
