Objective To research the pathological changes of cerebral arteries and RBC deformability in experimental hypertensive animal model. Methods We made the hypertensive animal models by constricting the renal arteries in rabbits(2k 2c method). We set two groups of rabbits for studying the RBC deformability and the contents in plasma and certain area of cerebral tissue. One group was the expermental group including 10 rabbits of hypertension. The other, the control group included 10 normal rabbits. Results In renal hypertensive rabbits, pathological finding of brain revealed that general thickened wall was present in cerebral arteries, especially small arteries, there were hemorrhagic and ischemic lesions in cerebral tissues.RBC deformability of renal hypertensive rabbits decreased significantly.Endothelin is a potent vasoconstrictive peptide.Increased levels of ET had been found in plasma, hypothalamus and right temporal cortex of hypertensive rabbits. Both renal hypertensive models and control animals,ET concentrations in hypothalamus were higher than in temporal cortex.Couclusion These results indicated that ET in central nervous system might be a sort of neurotransmitters which played important role not only in hypertensive vascular diseases but also in many other aspects.
