'97 CAAC working conference held on 10-12 February, 1997 in Beijing. In 1997, China airline industry generated a total tonne-kilometer of 8. 85 billion, passenger boarding of 56. 03 million and cargo/ mail traffic of 1. 24 million tonnes, up 7. 3%, 0. 9% and 7. 5% respectively over 1996. CAAC and some local governments invested 21. 3 billion yuan RMB in infrastructure construction and technique improvement, being three times the figure of 1996 or more than the total value invested in the Eighth Five - year Plan period. This year, the whole industry will plan to perform a total tonne-kilometer of 9. 5 billion, passenger carried of 61 million and cargo/ mail of 1. 38 million tonnes, increasing 9. 6% , 8. 3% and 10.7% respectively, compared with figures of 1997. CAAC will invest 17. 9 billion Yuan RMB in fixed asset, an increase of 14% over 1997.
