"赤子"的本义是"初生的婴儿",其命名理据是"一尺长的小孩","赤"通"尺"。后来指"百姓"。"丈人"的本义是"成人",其命名理据是"一丈长的人",后来专指"岳父"。古代各个朝代的长度单位不一样,理解词义时,既不可一概而论,也不可以今律古。
