Zhang Yin-huan and Sino-US Negotiations on Limiting Chinese Laborers

华工问题是影响晚清中美关系的核心问题之一,1887到1888年间中美就限禁华工赴美进行了谈判,张荫桓作为当时的驻美公使负责了中方的谈判,虽然双方就该问题签订了条约,但因为各种原因,条约未为双方批准生效。

Chinese laborers abroad were one of the key problems affecting the Sino-US relation in the late Qing Dynasty Period. From 1887 to 1888, China and America carried out negotiations on forbidding Chinese laborers to go to the United States, and Zhang Yin-huan, as ambassador, was responsible for the Chinese government＇s negotiations. Both sides signed the treaty on this problem, but for other reasons, the treaty was not authorized by both sides.
