Literal vs.Oral Pronunciations and Strata-Spliting

文白读音的竞争导致语音向前演变或回转。由于扩散式音变的存在,同源层次的建立有其必要性。而文白读音的数量变化、身份变化、读音新老,以及读音借入方向的不同,有时会使层次区分存在困难。方言中层次消失后重建的现象也会增加层次区分的难度。

The competition of literal vs. oral pronunciations of Chinese characters may cause sound change going forward or backward. The reconstruction of internal strata is necessary, because there are some deffused sound change existed. There will have some difficulties in spliting strata, because of the different amount of literal or oral pronunciations, the possibility of identity shift of them, the new and old pronunciations, and the different prestige of sourse where the loan pronuciations originated from. Occasionally, the stratum may die away first and reestablish many years later. It brings more difficult to strata-spliting.
