在官话、晋语、吴语、平话以及其他部分南方方言中,"鼻"的读音一般来自全浊入声。这个读音《广韵》失记,与其去声一读当都是来自上古並母质韵长入声。普通话"鼻"的读音也是来自这个失记的读音。

The pronunciation of Bi（鼻） comes from Ru（入）-tone of voiced initials in Mandarin, Jin（晋）, Wu（吴）, Ping（平） and other southern dialects. Bi（鼻）of Ru（入）-tone pronunciation unrecorded in Guang Yun（广韵） and Bi（鼻） of Qu（去）-Tone pronunciation both derive from the type of words of initial Bing（并）, rhyme Zhi（质）, long vowel and Ru（入）-tone in ancient Chinese. The pronunciation of Bi（鼻） in Mandarin also comes from the pronunciation of Bi（鼻） unrecorded in Guang Yun（广韵）.
