The article analyzes the particularity, poor reliability and short service time of shaft seal of slurry pump for alumina production, according to the material characteristics of high temperature, high concentration, strong abrasiveness in raw material mill in alumina plant, as well as the requirement of prohibition of circumscribed cooling water into pump chamber, introduces a new self developed mechanical seal for slurry pump on the basis of improvement on original mechanical seal spring components, ensures the function and service time of the spring under this working condition, enhances the reliability and service time of the mechanical seal greatly.
