明代中央政府通过承袭、号召土司设立学校、参用流官等手段对土家族土司进行儒化,并在军事征调和贡赋上利用与控制土司。儒化和利用构成了明代中央政府控制土司的核心内容,也导致了土司制度在明代的兴盛。

The Central Government of the Ming Dynasty confucianisnized Chieftains of Tujia who helped to set up schools, made full use of the regional officials, dominated the Chieftains in levying military service and tribute. Confucianization and utili- zation formed a core content for the government to govern Chieftains, and also led to the prosperity in the Ming Dynasty.
