Li Yang made his directorial debut in 2003 with the award-winning ,Blind Shaft, a movie about China＇s coal mines. Four yearslater, he released his second work, Blind Mountain, through which he addressed the illegal ＂bride trade＂ in China＇s countryside. In both works, Li adopted a documentary approach, through which he reflected his concern about social realities in China.
