To study the protective effect of shark Hepatic Regenerative Factor (sHRF) on alcoholic liver injury in rats, alcoholic liver disease of animal model was established by ig. alcohol. The activities of Serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase (AST, the contents of albumin, total protein, malondialdehyde(MDA), triglycerides(TG) and Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) in liver tissue were measured after 5 weeks. The results showed that sHRF could not only create a prominent prevention to the abnomal increase in ALT and AST in rats' serum induced by alcohol, but also restrain the increase of triglyceride in the hepatic tissue of rats. In addition, sHRF could lead albumin content to increase, but the content of total protein was without obvious change. Besides, sHRF administrating group could apparently enhance the activity of SOD, reduce the content of MDA, improve the rats' eliminating ability of oxygen free radicals in the body, as well as reduce the injury of lipid peroxide to tissues and organs. Tissue slice displayed that the hepatic pathological changes of the administrating group are less severe than those of the model group. It was concluded that sHRF had significant protective effect on alcoholic liver injury in rats.
