A recently described family of proteins, the suppressor of cytokine signaling (SOCS) family, which acts in a negative feedback loop to regulate growth factor signaling or cytokine via the Janus kinase signal transducer and activator of transcription (JAK-STAT) pathway, has been much reported, and some studies suggest that SOCS-3 plays a key role in myoblast differentiation and suppressing of interleukin-6 mediated cellar inflammatory. With the bulk of reports about the SOCS family, this paper reviews the studies on the relevance of SOCS-2 and SOCS-3 to the IGF-1 (insulin-like growth factor 1) and GH (growth hormone) signaling system, especially focusing on the role of SOCs-3 in the myoblast differentiation. The results of the previous studies suggest that the SOCS-2 and SOCS-3 may be potential intercellular protein factors to act on the growth factor signaling and SOCS-3 probably has an accelerating effect on animal muscle development.
