林语堂的一生经历了政治态度、宗教信仰、书写方式、研究领域等诸多方面的转变,而终生不变的是对自由主义的追求和启蒙精神的坚持、一脉相承的科学精神和矢志不移的审美情怀、人文主义的固守和中国智慧的传播以及殷殷的爱国之心和拳拳的报国之情。"变"与"不变"的交错与互动,正是导致林语堂"一捆矛盾"的根本原因。

Research on Lin Yutang＇s whole life shows that he experienced numerous changes in the political attitudes, the religious beliefs, his way of his writing and researching fields, etc. But what he insisted all his life is to pursue the spirit of freedom ,enlightenment, science, aesthetic feelings, humanism and to implement the dissemination of Chinese wisdom with his deep love of the motherland and a truly patriotic heart, which caused Liu Yutang＇s ＂a bundle of contradictions＂.
