On the Change of Wang Xizhi's Position in the Theory of Calligraphy in the Tang Dynasty

摘要 唐初书论崇王理论有其发生、发展的社会基础和理论基础,在唐太宗大力倡导下,崇王论一统天下,人为的把本应该按照书法自身规律发展的书法艺术规矩到王羲之书风的狭小空间内,限制了书法艺术争鸣化、多元化、个性化的发展轨道,这终究挡不住人们满足五彩精神世界的追求,书学理论必然会适时地总结这一需求,并引导书法艺术健康发展,崇王论也因其逐渐不合时宜而最终淡出历史舞台。 The theory of adoring Wang Xizhi in the Tang dynasty has its social foundation as well as its theoretical foundation, which reached its climax under the reign of Tang Taizong who admired Wang Xizhi very much. Thus the calligraphy art which should have had its own way of development was forced to be confined within the limited space of Wang Xizhi's. Therefore, the contending, individual character and diversity of the calligraphy art were limited. However, this could not prevent people from pursuing their spiritual world which could satisfy themselves. The calligraphy theory was bound to realize the demand, and guide the calligraphy art to develop healthily. As a result, the theory of adoring Wang was abandoned and eventually disappear in the world because it could not meet the needs of its social context.
