中国传统社会的结婚制度,以聘娶为主要形式。由于受到明清普遍的婚姻习俗和徽州独特的地理人文环境的影响,明清徽州形成了一些特殊的婚姻形式。明清徽州节烈妇女的特殊婚姻形式主要有童养婚、招赘婚、买卖婚、媵妾婚、抢逼婚、冲喜、奉夫木主成婚等。其特殊婚姻生活表现为守活寡、无性夫妻生活以及守贞岁月中性的苦闷与压抑等。明清徽州节烈妇女长期处于孤独苦闷的生活环境中,其生理和心理受到极大的压抑和扭曲。
