摘要
浪漫主义作家热衷于描写自然风景,他们将风景抬举到"缪斯"或"宗教"的高度,以激发人们的崇拜之情。对于他们来说,风景描写并不是对于外部景色的单纯的再现,而是一种想象方式,用以表达他们情感的、认知的、文化的关注。本文无疑是一种尝试,试图亦即通过细读文本和联系社会-文化语境,研究在华特.司各特的苏格兰题材历史小说——主要是在《威费莱》和《红酋罗伯》里,风景是如何被想象"浪漫化"成三个相关的美学概念(荒野的、如画的和崇高的),以及如何成为一种精神资源,进入个人的审美经验之中的。
Romantic writers are enthusiastic about the depiction of natural landscapes which they regard as 'Muse' or 'religion' in order to arouse the worship of the readers. To such writers, the depiction of natural landscapes is not a simple reproduction of natural scenes but a way of imagination for expressing their emotional, cognitive and cultural concerns. Through a scrutiny of Walter Scott’s Scottish historical novels (mainly Waverley and Rob Roy) and the relevant socio-cultural context, this paper aims to explain how landscape turns into three aesthetic concepts 'romanticized' by imagination and enters the individual aesthetic experience as a spiritual resource.
