紫薇绒蚧１年发生３代、每只雌蚧产卵２１６．７±１０３．１粒，成虫、若虫吸食紫薇、石榴等的汁液，造成树势衰弱，生长不良，同时虫体排泄的蜜露诱发煤污病菌大量孳生，常使叶片呈污黑色，影响植株光合作用和呼吸作用，从而加速植物枝条或整株枯死。
