经过宋史学界和法史学界二十多年来的"双线"努力,宋代法制史的研究逐步呈现欣欣向荣之态。至于中国监狱史则始终徘徊在边缘、冷落之地,较少受到研究者的注意。薛梅卿先生作为兼治宋代法制史和中国监狱史的前辈学者,浸淫于此多年,可谓两个领域由起步到发展的见证人,阅读薛先生的著述,不啻为加深理解两个领域多年研究成果的绝佳途径。

Through over 20 years’joint efforts by academic circles of Song Dynasty’s history and legal history the research into the legal history of Song Dynasty is getting prosperous. As a marginal subject the history of Chinese prison is always treated coldly and overlooked and attracts much less attention from researchers. As a venerable senior scholar researching the legal history of Song Dynasty and the history of Chinese prison Xue Meiqing has been devoting herself to them for many years and can be regarded as the witness of the two subjects from their start to their development. Reading her works is the best way to get a deeper understanding of her research achievements in the two subjects.
