戏曲艺术的发展进步是鉴于不断对传统的革新。通变乃是戏曲乃至一切文学艺术样式发展的规律。为了寻求更大的发展空间,戏曲艺术一方面在规范声腔格律和舞台表演样式,同时戏曲不断以当时社会的通用语纠正方语,克服戏曲表演的语言障碍,达到规范演出和寻求外域扩张的目的。一代有一代之文学,戏曲语言通语化乃是戏曲拥抱时代追求更大发展,跻身一代文学之关键步骤之一。

The development of traditional Chinese operas goes along with the reform against tradition. To adapt itself to circumstances is a development rule in the traditional Chinese opera and indeed all forms of art. In spite of continuous stylization of tune and action, traditional Chinese operas also kept introducing vocabulary and expressions in common speeches to take the place of dialects and overcome language barriers, so as to gain a large space for development. This is a vital step for traditional Chinese operas to keep up with time and gain a position in contemporarya literature.
