The Analogy and Difference between the Fifth and Eighth Editions of"World Civilization History"

《世界文明史》系美国著名历史学家爱德华·伯恩斯等撰写的一部在美国有相当影响的著作。它初版于1955年,此后屡次修订再版,至1991年共出版了八版。1987年1月和1998年5月商务印书馆分别翻译出版了该书1974年第五版和1991年第八版。第八版比第五版在全书章节、内容等方面上呈现出新的特点。

＂World Civilization History＂ was an influential masterpiece of famous American historians such as Edward McNall Burns. It was firstly published in 1955 and had been republished eight times up to 1991. The Commercial Press translated its fifth and eighth editions respectively in 1987and 1998. These two Chinese editions both described the development course of world civilization and the Chinese eighth edition showed us new chapters, new contents and new features. This article aims to analyze the same and the difference of these two Chinese editions.
