“少数民族”一词英译商榷

在中英文翻译的过程中,有不少人将"少数民族"一词翻译为Nationality,或者采用其他译法,而不是使用Minority一词。文中分析其产生的原因和背景后,认为将"少数民族"直译为Minority更加准确合理。

In translation of Chinese into English, the Chinese expression 少数民族 is sometimes translated as ＂nationality＂ in stead of ＂minority＂, which is the idiomatic expression in English. This paper analyzes the causes and backgrounds of this phe nomenon and concludes that ＂minority＂ is the more reasonable translation for 少数民族.
