摘要
纳拉扬的长篇小说《画广告牌的人》塑造了印度当代社会的新女性形象黛西。黛西摆脱了传统文化对女性的束缚,与家庭、社会和男性的关系超越了传统规范,献身社会事业成就了自我。这一形象比纳拉扬早期作品中的新女性具有更深刻的女性解放的思想内涵,反映了20世纪70年代印度女性新的精神面貌,也体现了作家对女性的新观念。
The Painter of Signs portrays Daisy as a new image of modern Indian women, who frees herself from the fetters of traditional culture, and fulfils herself through devoting to her work. Her relationship with her family, society and males deviates from the traditional norm. Compared with the women images in Narayan's earlier works, Daisy symbolizes a more intense women emancipation, and reflects a new look of Indian women as well as the writer's new notions of women in the 1970s.
