The novel complex (ClO 4) (IMA=[(4 methylimidazol 1 yl)methylene] β alanine) was prepared, and characterized by Single crystal X ray analysis. Crystal data: space group P2 1/c , a =1 338 8(2) pm, b =1 521 0(2) pm, c =1 310 8(6) pm, β =92 03(3)°, V =2 667 5(1)×10 9 pm 3, Z =4. Each copper(Ⅱ) ion has a distorted octahedral environment, the equatorical positions of the Cu(1) and Cu(2) atoms are occupied by two nitrogen atoms and one oxygen atom from the Schiff base ligand and the other carboxy oxygen atom from the adjacent ligand. The apical positions of the Cu(1) atom are occupied by two water molecules, while those of the Cu(2) atom are occupied by two perchlorate oxygen atoms. The carboxylate group acts in syn anti mode to bridge the Cu(Ⅱ) atoms into a one dimension chain in the solid.
