钱尚濠非“五色石主人”考

Who authored "The story of The Straight Scholar"?

中国国家图书馆藏清初小说《快士传》,首残序署"长洲钱尚□题于海山书屋"。经查对研究,此序实为清初绥山主人钱尚濠《买愁集.哀集》序,据此知《快士传》序后题署"钱尚□"最后一字为"濠"字,"海山主人钱尚□"实为"绥山主人钱尚濠"。另根据内容、版本、刊刻时间、作者情况等的考证,断定国图本《快士传》误用了《买愁集》序,因此,钱尚濠并非《快士传》及其序的作者五色石主人。

The words ＂inscribed in Haishan study room by a Changzhou native Qian Shang-kou＂ in the fragmentary preface to the novel ＂The story of The Straight Scholar＂ published in the early Qing Dynasty have been long believed to evidence Qian Shang-hao＇ s authorship of the book. However, it is found that this preface was written for the Collection of Buying Sadness by Qian Shanghao, the Master of Sui Shah. Hence, it can be safely assumed that ＂kou＂ was mistaken for ＂hao＂ while ＂Qian Shang-kou, the Master of Hai Shan＂ for ＂Qian Shang-hao＂ . Moreover, the evidences such as the content, version, printing time and author＇ s experiences confirm_ the misplacement of the preface. As a result, Qiao Shang-hao but the Master of Wu Se Shi did not author or preface ＂The story of The Straight Scholar＂ now available in China＇ s National Library.
