The Ministry of Industry and information Technology （工业和信息化部/MIIT） has awarded 3G mobile phone licenses to the country＇s three largest mobile phone operators. China Mobile （中国移动） received a license for the domestically-developed TD-SCDMA system, while China Telecom （中国电信） and Ctlina Unicom （中国联通） were granted licenses for the US＇s CDMA2000 ancl Europe＇s WCDMA technologies respectively. China will invest RMB 280 billion （USD 41.18 billion） in the development of 30 networks over the next two years, with sales of 30 phones expected to hit RMB 300 billion （USD 44 billion） over that period.
