A Pharmacological Study of “Wuzi Yanzong Wan”

对中医古方五子衍宗丸进行药理学研究，研究结果表明五子衍宗丸能增加去势小鼠性器官重量，可提高雄性大鼠的精子数及精子活力。

Wuzi Yanzong Wan ”, an ancient prescription of Chinese Traditional Medicine published in 〈Xuanjie Lu〉of Tang dynasty is mainly used for curing symptoms like impotence and being hort sperm.In order to provide scientific basis for futher study of this prescription, the influence of “Wuzi Yanzong Wan” on the weight of genitals of castrated mice, on the sperm number of male rats and, also, on the recovery of disorder of male rat's sexual function caused by terror was observed.The results showed that “Wuzi Yanzong Wan” can increase the weight of genitals of castrated mice, and the number and activity of sperm of male rats, and improve rat's sexual function, suggesting, this medicine has male hormon like effects and it is of significance to make further study on its influence to the seminiferous tubules.
