The article is a summary of the phenomena of linguistic intergroup bias（LIB）. The bias means that one may use different abstract levels of language to describe the positive and negative behaviors of people depending on whether the target is in-group or out- group. Experiments of both fixed response and free response paradigms demonstrated that this phenomenon also existed in Chinese cultural backgrounds. The paper＇s discussion about the potential effeet of LIB on maintaining and transmitting stereotypes and its application in measuring prejudice indicates that LIB is an important issue in the field of social psychological research.
