30-Year Evolution of the Theory of Free and Comprehensive Development of Humanity with Chinese Characteristics

人的自由全面发展是马克思主义的基本思想。自改革开放以来,以邓小平、江泽民、胡锦涛为核心的三代领导集体,站在不同的逻辑起点,设计了递进式人的发展目标。邓小平致力于经济解放和生产力的发展,使人的生存需求得以初步满足;江泽民在巩固温饱的基础上明确提出了"促进人的全面发展是社会主义本质要求"的命题;胡锦涛则以人的自由全面发展为理论基础和追求目标,从执政治国理念的高度提出了"以人为本",将人的发展作为明确的价值目标落实到社会运行机制之中。中国特色人的自由全面发展进程呈现出以时代为特征的阶段性演变轨迹。

Free and comprehensive development of humanity is a basic idea of Marxism. Since the reform and opening-up policy was implemented, the three generations of state leadership with Deng Xiaoping, Jiang Zemin and Hu Jintao at the core respectively, with different logical starting points, have designed progressive humanity-related developing objectives. Deng Xiaoping is committed to economic emancipation and to the growth of productivity, which preliminarily satisfies the requirements of human survival. Proceeding from stabilization of sufficient food and clothing, Jiang Zemin advances that ＂promoting the comprehensive development of humanity is an essential requirement of socialism＂. By setting the free and comprehensive development of humanity as a theoretical basis and a goal to reach, Hu Jintao puts forward ＂people first＂ from the vantage point of governance and ruling, and also puts the development of humanity into the operational mechanisms of society as a definite value goal. The theory of free and comprehensive development of humanity with Chinese characteristics manifests a phase-by-phase evolution with distinctive epochal traits.
