The South Anhui Incident and the Soviet Policy Towards China

皖南事变使国共关系骤然激化,苏联对此采取了基本正确的政策,这就是正确判断事变对中国政局走向的影响,把握中日民族矛盾这一主要矛盾,在向国民党政府施加压力的同时,主张中共运用政治手段解决冲突,从而促成国共两党之间矛盾缓解,维系了中国抗战的大局。

The South Anhui Incident radically worsened the relations between the Kuomintang and the CPC. Faced with this situation the Soviet Union adopted a basically correct policy, i. e. , correctly judged the possible impact on the changes in the Chinese political situation, grasped the principal contradiction - the national con- tradiction between China and Japan, and while exerting pressures on the Kuomintang advised the CPC to use political means for settling conflicts. This policy helped relax the contradictions between the two Chinese parties and keep up the overall situation of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.
