When Personal Communications Services (PCS) were first conceived, many analysts expected that they would compensate for some of the weaknesses of cellular telephones-problems such as high prices,bulky equipment,the need for battery power,and the interference cellular users experience in congested and remote areas. However, before the first PCS services could be introduced, a significant reduction in the size of cellular handsets and improvements in battery capacity allowed cellular telephones to be used in the same way that forecasters initially expected PCS handsets to be used.Over the long term, PCS will become an anytime/ anywhere communications service, and will include the integration of all telecommunications services currently offered by wireline and wireless networks. Southwestern Bell and GTE are already offering Tele-Go,a service that combines wireless and wireline services. Tele-Go, which allows subscribers to use one device to access both cellular and traditional wireline services, has been well received despite the fact that it does not offer some of the advanced features that will be possible when PCS providers beg-ing to use Intelligent Network capabilities.
