摘要 2008 breakthrough of the year went to reprogramming as announced by magazine Science recently , highlighting a stem cell revolution in the scientific world underway commencing at 2006. For the field of stem cell and developmental biology, 2008 ended with a truly exciting achievement for the Rat, i.e., the generation of germline competent embryonic stem cells from rat blastocysts （Figure 1） .
