广州同文馆探源

An Exploration of the Guangzhou Translators College

广州同文馆于1864年6月在广州成立。它是洋务运动发展的产物,也是广东地方官员努力的结果;它成立后又对洋务运动在广东的发展产生了推动。广州同文馆是广州近代官办教育的开端,它不但培养了一大批外语人才,而且为广东后来开办各种新式学堂提供了重要借鉴。

Guangzhou Translators College, set up in June 1864, was a result of the ＂Foreign Enterprises Movement＂ and the efforts of Guangdong provincial bureaucrats. The college in turn promoted the development of the movement. It was the beginning of education run by government in modern Guangzhou. It not only trained a large number of people versed in foreign languages but also provided a model for various schools created later in Guangdong.
