外向型汉英词典中“龙”的释译研究

A Comparative Study between the Definitions of Loong and Dragon in C-E Dictionaries Designed for Foreign Learners of Chinese

龙与dragon是两个完全不同的事物,但人们一直把中国"龙"译成dragon,多数汉英词典及英语辞书把drgaon作为龙的唯一英译对等词。把dragon作为龙的英译对等词忽略了两者在中西文化中的不同含义,从而人为的在两者之间制造了一种假的对应关系。对于译者而言,具有浓厚文化意蕴的词语,不仅要译出它的表层意义,更要准确再现其深层的文化内涵。龙是中华民族的图腾和象征,从龙的这一文化原型出发,国内辞书编纂者在外向型汉英词典中把Loong作为龙的释译对等词才是恰当而准确的。

Loong （龙） and dragon are essentially different from each other, but Chinese loong is always being translated as dragon, and most of C-E dictionaries take dragon as the only equivalent of loong, which neglects their different meanings in Chinese and Western cultures, so that a false equivalent relation has been created between them. The translator should translate not only the surface meaning of the words with rich cultural meanings but also the deep cultural connotations correctly. Loong is the totem and the symbol of the Chinese nation, so it should be defined as loong in C-E dictionaries designed for foreign learners of Chinese.
