This paper introduces the origin oi functional approaches to translation studies firstly. Then the author takes Halliday＇s discourse aualysis model and Nord＇s text analysis model as examples, and goes deeper into functional approaches to translation studies and its research method by comparing microcosmic translation function （ discourse analysis school） with macroscopic translalion function （functionalist school）.
