“下里巴人”辨——毛泽东大众文学观浅探

On "Xia Li Ba Ren"——Discussion about Mao Zedong's View of Popular Literature

在延安召开的文艺座谈会上,毛泽东说起了"下里巴人",表达了他关于大众文学的观点。在他的心目中,大众文学和精英文学一样,都是文学品种。他认为:我们既需要"高级"的大众文学,同时也需要"低级"的大众文学。他告诫广大文艺工作者,要引导大众文学汲取精英文学的精华,沿着从"低"到"高"的道路前进,而不是蔑视和摒弃它,或者把它引上精英文学的道路。

On a meeting of literature and art held in Yan＇an, Mao Zedong mentioned the word ＂Xia Li Ba People＂. In this term he expressed his view of popular literature. As far as Mao concerned, popular literature is just a type of literature as elite literature. He said we not only need ＂high -class＂ popular literature,but also need ＂low -class＇popular literature. He exhorted the people engaged in literary work to absorb the essence of elite literature and guide the popular literature from ＂low＂ to ＂high＂ rather than contempt and reject it.or lead it to the elite literature.
