文字层的连贯与衔接功能

Graphological Coherence and Cohesion

文章在回顾语篇连贯和衔接理论的基础上,重点探讨了文字层在保证语篇连贯和衔接方面的作用。在语篇连贯的外部条件上,文字层通过作用于语域,把情景语境与语篇联系起来,保证了语篇的外部连贯。在语篇连贯的内部条件上,文字层的标点符号、大小写、字号字体和版式等特殊手段能够作用于语篇的概念、人际和谋篇意义,从而实现语篇的内部衔接。文章通过分析法律英语、小说、诗歌等语域的具体语篇,论证了该理论的可行性。

By reviewing the previous coherence and cohesion theories, the present research describes and explains how the graphologieal system is employed to create a text of external coherence and internal cohesion. Externally, graphological coherence is realized by means of register. Internally, experiential, interpersonal and textual cohesion are achieved by such graphological devices as punctuation, capitalization, font, size and layout. This paper argues the feasibility of this theory by analysing legal documents, novels, poems and texts from other registers.
