Fossilization in inter-language is a common phenomenon in second language acquisition （SLA） and a frequently arising problem in foreign language learning. Therefore it is worth paying attention to by foreign language teachers and learners. This essay will focus on the definition, the characteristics and the main causes of inter-language fossilization, and the significance and functions of analyzing inter-language fossilization.
