As a ＂gift project,＂which commemorated the 50th anniversary of the founding of the People＇s Republic of China,the China Red Sandalwood Museum opened on September 19,1999.It is the first and largest privately owned museum in China that specializes in the collection ,research and exhibition of red sandalwood works of art and classical furniture that dates back to ancient China.
中国紫檀博物馆是北京市向建国50周年献礼的重点工程。作为中国首家规模最大，集收藏研究、陈列展示紫檀艺术与鉴赏中国传统古典家具于一身的民办（私立）博物馆，它填补了中国博物馆界的一项空白。
