Nuodeng locates in the north of Yunlong County,Dali,Yunnan Province, which is on China's southwest border. It is a very remote mountain village that surrounded by high mountains.Even few people in Yunnan have heard of it. However,it is this remote, quiet, and now seems to me some dilapidated village, has quite a long and glorious history and culture. Nuodeng is an ancient village based on salt production.Since the Western Han Dynasty to the 1990s,the village residents have been making a living by dealing in salt.A variety of building the village, including houses, ancestral bails, office buildings, temples and so on,distributed with the core of salt wells. In the village, various facilities construction and resources that related to production and living of the residents, including salt well, streams, roads, workshops, markets, residential areas, office buildings, temples, ancestral halls and so on,are basically intact. These elements demonstrate the typical features of Nuodeng as a village of handicraft industry. They are important carriers for us to have a true and comprehensive understanding of the living and producing conditions of traditional handicraft villages. In this sense,Nuodeng is a valuable natural salt Heritage Museum.
