摘要
本文从英汉语中典型的动词短语省略结构入手,分析了动词短语省略的三个特征——严格与宽泛释义歧义、局部性效应和混合解读,同时通过分析英汉语中展现这一特征的其他结构,指出这一系列特征只能是动词短语省略的充分条件而非必要条件,并不能成为判断动词短语省略的标准。
In the article, it mainly focuses on the verb phrase ellipsis constructions （VPE constructions） in English and Chinese. In both languages VPE constructions exhibit three typical properties, namely the strict and sloppy interpretation ambiguity, the locality effect and the mix reading. Meanwhile, it is found that such properties can also be shared by other constructions in English and Chinese. Finally it concludes that three typical properties are not the diagnostics for VP ellipsis.
