I＇ve been enjoying working with editors of ＂English Salon＂ to help with critiquing students＇ essays. In one of the essays that I helped to critique, I came across an English translation of an old Chinese saying, blood is thicker than water. It means, I would think, people tend to have stronger bonds when they are related by blood. Indeed, don＇t we also say ＂it takes blood brothers to fight a battle＂？
