The Difference of Politeness Maxim and Translation of Politeness Language Between English and Chinese

礼貌准则是人们衡量言语交际是否得当的一条重要准则。作为一种社会文化现象,它在不同的文化中表现出不同的特点。在比较英汉礼貌准则差异的基础上,分析英汉两种语言文化中问候语、称呼语、谦语与敬语、委婉语四个方面礼貌用语的差异,并以此为出发点,结合实例,探讨英、汉礼貌用语的互译策略。

Politeness Maxim is important for people to measure whether their communicative use of langnage is appropriate. As a social culture phenomenon, it displays different characteristics in different cultures. Based on the comparison of the differences in Politeness Maxim between English and Chinese, this paper analyzes the differences of polite languages in English and Chinese from such four aspects such as addressing, greeting, courtesy and honorific, and euphemism. Then, it further discusses the tactics adopted in the translation of polite languages by showing examples.
