Classification of Lotus Cultivars According to the Dual Classification System for Ornamental Plants

对《中国荷花品种图志》（１９８９）制定的荷花品种分类系统作出了若干调整，即按二元分类法认定美国莲为中国莲亚种后重新确定其分类地位，将中小株型品种并列，与大株型品种分开．补充重台型，增设新类型和间色品种．调整后制定的荷花品种分类新系统检索表，包括３种系、６群、１４类、３８型，含２７８个品种．

The basic contents of the dual classification system for ornamental plants are recommended, after the present state of cultivar classification systems which have paid much emphasis on practical consideration is analyzed. The dual classification system has effects of practical classification on the one hand, and can reflect evolution route and evolution level of cultivars on the other hand. Nowadays, some revisions have been made to adjust several treatments adopted in Chinese Lotus Cultivars in Colour (1989),according to the dual classification system. The American lotus Nelumbo lutea is considered as a subspecies of N. nucifera, and then medium sized and small sized cultivars are listed together apart from big sized ones. Duplicate type and some other new groups and types are added. After the revision, the Key of A New System for Classifying Chinese Lotus Cultivars consists of 3 branches, 6 groups, 14 subgroups and 38 types, including 278 cultivars totally.
