A brief account is given of the start-up and preliminary operation results of a low-pressure vertical water-cooled methanol reactor. Its actual operation results indicate that the shell and internals of the reactor are of separate structure, the loading and unloading of the catalyst are convenient, and it has the characteristics of simple operation, high ability of heat removal, uniform distribution of temperature in the bed, high utilization of reaction heat, low resistance in the reactor, and steady oper- ation.
