英汉习语文化差异视域下可译性浅谈

The Translatability of English and Chinese Idioms under the Cultural Discrepancies

文章认为,习语是从人民口语和经典著作中提出来的语言精华,是历代各民族智慧的结晶和语言中的瑰宝。习语体现其民族的历史进程、文化传统、生活习俗、无不给其民族语言留下深刻独特的烙印。本文试图利用对比的方法阐述英汉习语在地理环境、文化背景、风俗习惯和宗教信仰等方面的差异,然后进一步探究在这种文化差异下,英汉习语的可译性及翻译的准确性。笔者认为文化的不可译性可向可译性转换,但应注意习语翻译的准确性。

Idioms are language essences that were extracted and purified from the people＇s spoken language and classical works, It is the language gem and crystal of each nation＇s wisdom in the successive dynasties. Having left their deep and unique stamps on the language , idioms can best express the historical process, cultural tradition and customs of the people. The present article, adoping a contrastive approach, first attempta to put forward the cultural discrepancies in terms of geography, culture, customs and religious belief. And then it tries to investigate the translatability and accuracy of translation of English and Chinese idioms under the cultuaral discrepancies. The author considers that the untranslatability of culture can be converted into translatability; but people should pay more attention to the accuracy of translation.
