林黛玉与薛宝钗两种不同风格、不同品位的美,分别代表了作家所欣赏所崇拜的女性性格的两个方面和两种不同的气质与风度。她们虽代表了女性美甚至人性美的两极,但她们都不能称之为"完美"。虽然将钗黛"合一"可"兼美",但那也只是贾宝玉一厢情愿的"痴心"与"妄想"。所以无法"兼美"后的选择和取舍,便再充分不过地看出选择者的思想意识、情感倾向,同时也更深刻地体现了宝黛爱情的精神内核和《红楼梦》所达到的思想高度。

The beauty of Lin Daiyu and Xue Baochai, with differences in style and taste, represent respectively two aspects of feminine characters and distinctive temperaments and graces, which are appreciated and adored by the author. Though representing two extremes of womanly and human beauty, they cannot be thought of as ＂perfect＂. Though the ＂combination＂ of Baochai and Daiyu can bring the ＂coexistence of two forms of beauty＂, that was only the wish of Jia Baoyu-＂ infatuation＂ and ＂vain hope＂. Therefore, with the failure of ＂coexistence of beauty＂, the choice can fully reflect Baoyu＇s ideas and feelings. Meanwhile, it also reflects the mental kernel of the love between Baoyu and Daiyu, and a high degree of thinking achieved by the novel Hong Lou Meng.
