This paper purports to review polysystem theory. A brief introduction about the theory will firstly presented, followed by the introduction to its background, including social-historical and theoretical background. Then the main theoretical views of this theory will be brought forward, along with its contributions and limitations. In the process, we will find polysystem theory opens a new horizon for translation studies.
